Caring for suedeUpdated 2 years ago

If your Cobbler Union shoes sport our suede leather, these are the steps we specifically recommend in your shoe care regime:

  1. Insert shoe trees. This should be done after every wear to help pull moisture from the soft leather lining of the shoe. Additionally, shoe trees help minimize the harsh look of creasing and add a deodorizing element to shoes. This is one of the most vital parts of shoe care.
  2. Brush off superficial dirt and dust before continuing with a horsehair brush.
  3. Condition and rehydrate. Even suede has to maintain a level of moisturization in the leather to keep the coat soft. We recommend using Saphir Renovateur Spray in a matching color (which may slightly darken the pair) or neutral (which would preserve the exact color) to add a layer of deep-penetrating conditioning.
  4. Lightly brush the shoe. Using a specific suede brush, gently bring out the original fuzzy, napped look of the suede and to work the conditioner into the leather. Take care not to bear down too hard, as this may damage the suede.
  5. Add a protective layer. Now that you've set your foundational color and moisturization, it's time to protect your hard work and the beautiful coat of suede. For this final step we recommend using the Saphir Super Invulner spray and adding a full coat throughout the entire boot and allowing the spray to set and dry for around 30 minutes. This spray will help protect against accidental spills, dirt, dust, water, etc. and is vital for suede care.

These are the steps we recommend to keeping the leather of your shoes healthy. Of course, there are additional steps that can be taken for thorough sole care, so if you have any questions about more in-depth care, simply drop us a line!
